Part 5
Modules Modules are applications that put content in various positions on the pages in your template. If you add ?tp=1 to your frontpage url, ie www.yoursite.com/index.php?tp=1 you will see the various positions of the modules. The positions can be selected when enabling a module and will then show the content in that place. Nb. If you select the template in 'Extensions/Template Manager' you can also see these positions by selecting 'Preview'. The various templates will show some variations of positions. Lets have a look at some of the standard modules that come with the standard install. Breadcrumbs, this shows the visitor the page's that they are on path. (Say, Home/Section/Category/name_of_article). This is usually at the top of the page underneath the header. Menu, open these up, as with all the modules, you can control where they are on the page, left, right, etc., and on what pages. Statistics, as well as before re position, after opening this up, you can control what is displayed, ie Server set-up, hits etc. I am sure you get the idea now what modules are all about. Have a browse of the others in your list, some you might need, some you dont need to enable, it's up to you! You can make your own module, the custom module is very handy. Say, you wanted to make a small announcement, in the Module Manager click 'new', select custom and write your text or insert an image. Select which page you want it on, all or just individual pages. Dont forget to put a title, which postion and that it is Enabled. The order of the modules can be adjusted in the Module manager. Say you had the main menu and Statistics in the left position and you wanted the statistics above the menu, just click the up arrow until it's where you want it. The same goes for all the modules positions. If you look, say, at the order of the list marked 'right' , then that will be the order that they appear on the page. To adjust this, either use the up and down arrows or type in a number under the order column then click the little floppy disk icon and this will save it to where you want it to be. ie 1, 2, 3, is1st 2nd 3rd etc. Any helpful shortcuts or tips gratefully received!
