Templates One of the advantages with the Joomla system is that it uses a template system. This means, with a couple of clicks, the whole site can be transformed with a totally new look. Joomla comes with three templates, if you go into the Extensions/Templates you will see there is one marked as 'Default' with a star. To change this, click the radio button next to the template that you want to use, click default at the top and that's it. Your template is changed! You can get new templates in the following way: 1. Write one yourself. (there are tutorials on this if you Google it) 2. Modify the ones supplied. 3. Buy one. (Make sure the vendor gives you good support). 4, Loads of free ones out there. (Worth while checking out the Joomla forum to see if the one you get has any problems. We just found out that one free supplier, namely Themza who offers some real flashy templates, hides hacker like codes in disguised gif image files, so be warned! Look ). To install, follow the writers instructions. Then it's just a case of going to Extensions/install, browse for the file and hit 'Upload', Some template files need extracting first to your hard disk but usually it is a zip file that you upload. To check it out, make your new template the default and there you go! |
