Menu Items. Well, assuming you have the Joomla install with the sample data, then it's a case of pointing the menus items to your articles. To edit the main menu to point to your articles, go to 'Menus' then'main menu'. Click new, (you can edit the default ones but it is better to learn how to create a new one, you can always disable or delete ones that you do not need later), at the top right. Select the type of link, in this case ' articles'.
Article Layout.- this links to your single article and shows how you set it out.
Category Blog Layout.- Links to all the articles in the category and displays them all. Category List Layout.- Links to a list of articles in the category.
Similar process for the Sections.
Say you have chosen the 'Article Layout' then when you are directed to the 'Menu Item' page, you will have to select the article in the top right. Give the menu item a name in the box provided. There are other parameters on the righthand side that you can set before you leave this page, like showing authors name etc. Have a look and set it up to your liking. Thats it, click save and your menu item will show up on your pages. (Dont forget, you can set up which pages your menus show up on by going to modules/main menu and selecting the pages).
IMPORTANT Home menu item, leave this one alone! You will need a 'HOME' menu item so do not delete or it will cause problems. |
