OK, now you have sorted out your sections and categories, you want to add some content in your articles. But first, if you want a decent editor, go to the Joomla extensions site and download the JCE editor (see note bottom of page), you will find it very useful. ( If you have just installed the editor, go to 'Site/user manager' select 'superadmin' and change editor to 'JCE'. To create an article go to Content/article Manager then click new, (top right). This will open up your editor and you can type in your content, add pictures and add links etc. There are plenty of helpful icons in the editor, if you hover your mouse over them it will give you a hint of what their function is. If you know some HTML code then at the top left of the editors screen you will see 'show/hide', click this and you can switch between the two views. If the article is to be shown on the front page, this can be selected otherwise it will be just available in the section/category that you select. Re frontpage articles, you probably dont want the full article to show on the front page so you can enter a 'Read more' command and a 'Pagebreak' command where you want the text cut off. The frontpage will then show the part of the article and a read more link which when clicked will show the full article on a separate page. (More about the Frontpage is covered later). *To install an extension, in the administration panel, go to 'extensions' install/uninstall, click browse, got to where you downloaded the zip file, select it and then click 'upload file and install'. When it has uploaded, follow the instructions, (if there are any), then go to 'extensions' and either the modules or plugins, (editors are plugins). Find what you have just installed, open it, then make sure that it is 'enabled'. Article parameters You can set the parameters of this article by selecting 'Parameters advanced' on the right column. Here you might want to hide such things as when the article was published etc. I will add however, that even if you set some things here, you have a similar set-up in the 'Menus' under 'Menu Items edit', here it seems that some of the article parameters are overridden by these settings. So, if it is not displaying how you want check the Menu settings as well. (I'm not sure why this is set up like this, maybe my readers will enlighten me!) Better hang on a minute, we havent talked about setting up a menu item yet so better cover that now! |
